Extra! Extra! Read All . . . ~ Part 1

. . . about it!

The Troy Times-Tribune reporter, Stephanie Malench, meets with Lavadna Hines at the Collins House to ask about the decorations for the Collins House for Christmas.

The furniture in the dining room has been somewhat rearranged to make room for not only the corner Christmas tree, filled with a collection of ornaments from the 1930s and 40s, but to make room for Santa, who will meet and greet youngsters on December 7 and hear their deepest wishes.

Simple boxwood wreaths and candles enhance each window.

The table has been set with fresh boxwood from the gardens and is ready for dining in this cozy little nook.

Paul and Carolyn Welch have once again loaned the red chair from their home to the Collins House so Santa has a comfy seat for all the children he will meet. Note the pre-WWII ornaments displayed on the corner tree. Can you see the tricycle?

Surely this toy would have delighted a child on Christmas morning!

Fragile though they may be, these ornaments have survived the decades and tell a story that reminds us of long ago.

Close-ups of the antique ornaments on display.

Our sincere gratitude to Lois Metzger for the photographs!
