Our 2024 Autumn Welcoming Committee

Here are some photos of the members of the D.D. Collins House Autumn Scarecrow Welcoming Committee ~

A lovely group photo of scarecrows in the 2024 Scarecrow Extravaganza.

Hubert sits on our porch watching the passers-by. His name is of Germanic origin that means "bright or shining intellect," but sometimes he likes to hide behind his mask because he's a very dramatic fellow.

Calvin has his arms open wide to greet all who stop by. His name comes from the French word, "chauve" which means "little bald one" ~ he is also known for making fashion statements with his high-quality and timeless designs. You might say jeans are his thing.

Daisy sits on her bale of straw with a pumpkin from her pumpkin patch. Her name comes from the Old English word dægeseage, which literally means "day's eye." She is the perfect greeter to give a sweet allure to our autumn scene.

Zelena Rose is bright and cheery. Her name means "sunshine rose" so she loves to spend time in the garden with all the flowers and conveys good cheer to all.

Luna dons an autumn outfit and sweet smile. Her name means moon and is often associated with the night sky, stars, mystery, beauty, and femininity.

Mr. Pumpkinhead guards our cellar doors. He warns all, keep moving along the path and don't even think about entering this place!

Quasimodo was a little late to the extravaganza. Something about his duties in the belltower. He's a most delightful fellow with a heart of gold and kind behavior. His name translated from Latin as "Quasi modo" literally translates as "in the manner of" and was made famous by Victor Hugo's 1831 novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame in which Hugo translated the name as "half made" or "imperfectly molded." The opening line of the entrance antiphon for the first Sunday after Easter "Quasi modo geniti infantes" is a Latin phrase that means "as newborn babes."

We love that Quasimodo is here to brighten our autumn.

OMG! Mr. Pumpkinhead turned into Ichabod! His name is from Hebrew, a name that means "without glory" or "where is the glory?" and to put it plain and simple, he likes to be scary! You might say his scare tactics are just full of wind flapping in the breeze, but we'll let him be and have some fun on Halloween. Looks like he's having fun with Andy and Dennis making them skedaddle!

Our sincere thanks and accolades to Lavadna for her wonderful idea and to all who participated and brought scarecrows to make our autumn greeting so spectacular this year.
